Born in Belfast and raised in Brampton, Aidan Crawford is
generally very popular around St. Patrick’s Day as the “token
Irish guy” in the group.
Professionally he’s spent better part of the last two decades
scribbling copy for magazines, newspapers, brochures and
websites. Not surprisingly these experiences have helped him to
develop a keen sense of medium.
His creative juices really started to flow in the fall of
1992 when he walked into the
University
of Western Ontario’s
student newspaper – The Gazette – and boldly requested an
interview with the Tragically Hip. It didn’t happen.
However, after seeing his name in print for the first time
with another article he was hooked. It didn’t take long for his
skills as a writer to show in other interviews. The next year he
was promoted to Entertainment Editor.
For the next 7 years Aidan wrote for newspapers and magazines
in the London
area.
In 1999 his focus changed when he accepted a position as a
writer of corporate communications for a
Toronto
based firm – working primarily on web communications.
In late spring of 2001, he joined the marketing department of
Canada Life as the Web Marketing Specialist for Investments and
Pensions. In this role he honed his skills even further,
managing content for over 12 separate sites.
In 2005 he took an opportunity to join BMO Mutual Funds as
the Manager of Intranet/Internet. Here he used advanced web
analytics software to improve site usability and show the return
on investment from even minor improvements.
As he worked away at BMO, he began building a suite of sites
designed to help people from around the world research banking
services in Canada.
In 2006 he left BMO to focus on building Shortcircuitmedia.com.
At about this same time he started putting in a few days a
week at Critical Mass as a Content Analyst – where he worked
with top tier clients such as Rolex, Dell, Michelin and Citi
Group.
When he’s not doing research on web strategy (or the latest
band), it’s a sure bet you’ll find him at the gym, cycling or
camping with his wife.
